Test Setup and Methodology

• Battery drain test comparing OnePlus 7 Pro against 4 flagship phones
• Phones tested: OnePlus 7 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S10+, iPhone XS Max, Huawei P30 Pro, Xiaomi Mi 9
• White page displayed, brightness calibrated using lux meter
• Wi-Fi, NFC, location, Bluetooth enabled; other features disabled
• All phones set to maximum resolution (native settings)

Battery Specifications

• OnePlus 7 Pro: 4,000 mAh battery
• Samsung Galaxy S10+: 4,100 mAh battery
• Huawei P30 Pro: 4,200 mAh battery
• iPhone XS Max: 3,174 mAh battery
• Xiaomi Mi 9: 3,300 mAh battery

Display Specifications Impact

• OnePlus 7 Pro: 6.67" display, Quad HD+ resolution, 90Hz refresh rate
  • Three disadvantages: massive display, high pixel count, 1.5x faster refresh rate
• Samsung S10+: High resolution display (higher than other phones except OnePlus)
• Xiaomi Mi 9: Smallest display, lowest resolution, standard 60Hz refresh rate
  • Three advantages offsetting smaller battery

Test Applications and Activities

• Epic Battle Simulator 2 (physics-based demanding game)
• Spotify music streaming
• Asphalt gaming
• 4K 30fps video recording (10-minute intervals, 30 minutes total)
• KineMaster video editing and export

Performance Observations During Test

• 1.5 hours: Huawei P30 Pro established substantial lead
• iPhone XS Max held up well initially due to iOS optimization
  • iOS "lies" - stays at 100% longer, then drops faster
• OnePlus 7 Pro and S10+ struggling despite large batteries
• Resolution impact estimated at 10-15% battery drain
• 90Hz refresh rate additional impact on top of resolution

5-Hour Safety Mark Analysis

• 5 hours considered "safe mark" for acceptable battery life
• Performance beyond this point indicates phone won't cause daily worry
• All phones except iPhone exceeded this benchmark

Final Results and Rankings

1. Huawei P30 Pro: 7 hours (winner)
   • Limited to Full HD+ resolution
   • "Crazy" performance but resolution trade-off
2. Xiaomi Mi 9: 6 hours 12 minutes
   • Underdog performance despite 3,300 mAh battery
3. Samsung Galaxy S10+: 6 hours 30 minutes
   • Half hour longer than OnePlus despite no 90Hz display
4. OnePlus 7 Pro: ~6 hours
   • 15 minutes longer than iPhone
   • Perfect example of display quality vs battery trade-off
5. iPhone XS Max: 5 hours 45 minutes
   • Good considering battery capacity
   • Apple needs to increase battery capacity

Key Conclusions

• Display resolution massively impacts battery life (10-15% estimated)
• 90Hz refresh rate adds additional battery drain
• OnePlus 7 Pro: can't have everything - best display qualities hurt battery
• Huawei P30 Pro wins but limited to Full HD+ resolution
• OnePlus 7 Pro and S10+ still offer good battery life with ultra-high resolutions
• Battery life isn't the only phone consideration
